The study describes relevant use cases for mobility with ICT support, considering the categories safety, efficiency and comfort. Therefore two scenarios – “coexistence“ and “convergence“ – that sketch diverging and realistic developments in ITS are developed. Based on the analysis, barriers for reaching the scenarios are derived and priority areas for the “networked mobility of tomorrow“ are identified. In both scenarios, 5G cellular networks will play a major role. It analyzes the technology fields security and availability, communication technologies and networks as well as implications for standardization. In addition, the topics “society and law“ as well as “value creation and innovation“ are considered. The potential of 5G mobile networks for ITS, in particular for vehicular communication are shown. The study was carried out in the context of the technology program “ICT for electro mobility II” of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).
