The research project aimed to find solutions in order to close the semantic gap at the vertical information flow between the supervisory level and the control level. The approach was to create an abstract information model containing the most important structures, state information and relations from the point of view of the field devices, controller device and SCADA systems. In particular the engineering phase of a plant is considered, because a high risk exists if the final modifications at the commissioning are not held consistent with other information. Therefore in this project the data is not only assigned a symbolic name but also a relationship between the data which is formally correct and therefore unmistakeable to handle in different tools.
